“I will be academically honest in all of my academic work and will not tolerate academic dishonesty of others.” UGA Student Honor Code
Each University of Georgia instructor has a responsibility to report to the Office of the Vice President for Instruction if he/she believes a student may have violated the University’s academic honesty policy. Reports are made by completing the Report of Possible Academic Dishonesty Form and submitting the form by fax, campus mail, or e-mail (saved in pdf. format) to UGA’s Coordinator for Academic Honesty. Reports should be filed no later than 15 days from the date the possible dishonesty is discovered.
The Coordinator will notify the student by e-mail when the report has been filed. The person who reports the matter will be copied on the notification. The Office of the Vice President for Instruction will schedule a meeting (Facilitated Discussion) for the student and instructor to discuss the issue with the goal of reaching an agreement about the matter. Instructors should refrain from discussing the assignment(s) in question with the student until a facilitator is available to meet with both.
A trained facilitator will be assigned by the Office of the Vice President to assist the instructor and student in an educational discussion about what occurred. If both the instructor and student agree that dishonesty was involved, both will discuss appropriate sanctions for the violation. Sanctioning is determined by the instructor and student.
If the student and instructor are unable to reach an agreement about the violation or sanction, the matter will move forward to a Continued Discussion with an Academic Honesty Panel. At this level, the Panel will determine the outcome of the matter.
Instructors should read the full academic honesty policy, A Culture of Honesty and review the Facilitated Discussion Agreement Form before a Facilitated Discussion. Questions about the process should be referred to the Coordinator for Academic Honesty at (706) 542-4336 or by e-mail at: dbell@uga.edu.
